For Hajj 2027, no medical certificate means no visa. Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has told Hajj missions that every pilgrim’s certificate, showing their vaccinations and that they’re free of the conditions on Saudi Arabia’s list, must be uploaded to Nusuk and checked before a visa is approved.

That moves your health checks to the front of your Hajj plans. This page explains what the certificate covers, which conditions rule pilgrims out, and when to get your vaccinations done so nothing holds up your visa. We give Hajj vaccinations and the meningitis ACWY certificate at Evans Pharmacy in Malvern and Claines Pharmacy in Worcester.

Key point

Your vaccinations now need to be done before your Hajj visa application, not just before your flight. Have your meningitis ACWY vaccine and certificate as soon as your Hajj package is confirmed, and ask your Hajj operator for their visa deadline.

What’s changed for 2027

Health checks for Hajj aren’t new. Saudi Arabia has long asked the countries pilgrims travel from to declare them free of certain illnesses, and its health requirements include a pilgrim health status form for that purpose.
What’s new is how firmly it’s applied. For Hajj 2027, the medical certificate is a condition of the visa. It’s uploaded to the Nusuk platform for verification before a visa is approved, and Saudi authorities may check it again when you arrive. The instruction to Hajj missions was reported in September 2026.

For Hajj 2027, your health paperwork is checked before your visa, not just at the airport.

What the certificate covers

There are two parts to it, and they usually come from different places.

Part one

Your vaccinations

Proof of the meningitis ACWY vaccine, given at least 10 days before arrival, with the vaccine type stated. COVID-19 vaccination in line with Saudi guidance, which NaTHNaC applies to pilgrims aged 12 and over.

This is the part we provide
Part two

Your fitness to travel

Confirmation that you don’t have any of the conditions Saudi Arabia lists as ruling out Hajj. Your Hajj operator will tell you which form they need and who can complete it.

Ask your Hajj operator

For the vaccination part, we use Nimenrix, a conjugate vaccine, and record the type on your certificate so it counts for five years. It carries your name as it appears on your passport, the vaccine name and batch, the date and our clinic’s stamp, and it’s included in the price of the vaccine. Keep a clear scan or photo of it so it’s ready to upload.

Conditions that rule out Hajj

Saudi Arabia’s health requirements say pilgrims must not have any of the following. This is the 1447H (2026) list; the 2027 rules are expected to follow the same lines.

Organ failure

Major organ failure

Including kidney failure needing dialysis, heart failure with symptoms on minimal effort, chronic lung disease needing oxygen, and cirrhosis with signs of liver failure.

Neurological

Severe neurological or psychiatric conditions

Conditions that impair understanding, or that come with severe physical disability, and dementia.

Pregnancy

Late or high-risk pregnancy

The last three months of pregnancy, or a high-risk pregnancy at any stage.

Infection

Active infectious disease

Infections that are a public health risk in crowds, such as open tuberculosis of the lungs or haemorrhagic fevers.

Cancer

Cancer under active treatment

Active cancer being treated with chemotherapy or other therapies that severely weaken the immune system.

Before you book

If any of these might apply to you or someone you’re travelling with, speak to your GP or specialist before you pay for a Hajj package. They know your history and can tell you whether travelling is safe. We can’t make that decision in a vaccination appointment, and we’d never want you to find out after you’ve paid.

When to get your vaccinations

Hajj 1448 is expected to fall between 14 and 19 May 2027, depending on the sighting of the moon. Because your certificate has to be uploaded before your visa, the date that matters is your operator’s visa deadline, not your flight.

As soon as your package is confirmed

Meningitis ACWY and certificate

This is the vaccine your visa depends on. Getting it done early means your certificate is ready the moment your operator asks for it.

This winter

Your flu jab

Flu vaccine can be hard to get in late spring, so for a May Hajj, NaTHNaC advises having it during the UK flu season. Have your NHS flu jab if you’re eligible; if not, private flu vaccination is £22.99.

Hepatitis B and boosters

Hepatitis B is recommended because of head shaving, and a diphtheria, tetanus and polio booster if your last was more than ten years ago. We’ll plan the course around your dates.

If you have a long-term condition

Many pilgrims with diabetes, high blood pressure or other well-managed conditions perform Hajj every year. The exclusions above are about severe illness, not about having a long-term condition at all. Saudi Arabia does ask pilgrims to carry medical documentation and enough medication in its original packaging for the whole trip, so start gathering your prescriptions and a summary from your GP early.
Medicines that affect hydration, such as diuretics, may need adjusting for the heat. That’s a conversation for your GP before you go. Our guide to staying healthy on Hajj has a full health packing list.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a medical certificate for Hajj 2027?

Yes. Saudi Arabia has told Hajj missions that every pilgrim’s medical certificate must be uploaded to Nusuk and verified before a Hajj visa is approved.

What does the Hajj medical certificate need to show?

Your required vaccinations, including the meningitis ACWY vaccine, and that you don’t have any of the conditions Saudi Arabia lists as ruling out Hajj.

Can you provide my Hajj medical certificate?

We provide the vaccination certificate for the meningitis ACWY vaccine, and record any other vaccines we give you. Your Hajj operator will tell you which fitness-to-travel form they need and who can complete it.

When should I get my Hajj vaccinations for 2027?

As soon as your package is confirmed, and before your visa application. Have your flu jab during the UK flu season this winter, because flu vaccine can be hard to find in late spring.

Can I go on Hajj with diabetes?

Having diabetes doesn’t by itself rule out Hajj. The Saudi exclusions are about severe conditions such as organ failure. Speak to your GP or diabetes team before you book, and plan your medicines and foot care carefully.

Can I go on Hajj while pregnant?

Saudi Arabia doesn’t allow pilgrims in the last three months of pregnancy, or with a high-risk pregnancy at any stage, to perform Hajj. Speak to your midwife or GP before booking.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine for Hajj 2027?

Saudi guidance has required COVID-19 vaccination for Hajj pilgrims, and NaTHNaC advises everyone aged 12 and over to follow it. The 2027 rules will confirm the details, and we’ll check the current version at your appointment.
