For optimal results, wegovy should be used in conjunction with lifestyle modifications such as a healthier diet and increased exercise. In fact, studies have shown that around 84% of users lost at least 5% of their weight when using wegovy along with lifestyle changes, compared to only 40% who lost 5% without lifestyle modifications.
In comparison, only 60% of individuals using Saxenda® along with a reduced calorie diet and physical activity counselling lost 5% of their weight.
To ensure you can manage any potential side effects, the dosage is gradually increased through a process known as titration until a sustained dose is reached. If the treatment is well-tolerated, the dosing schedule will typically follow these guidelines:
Side effects are possible with any medication, but they tend to be mild and not experienced by everyone. In one clinical trial, only 5.3% of patients discontinued Wegovy due to side effects.
The most frequent side effects include headaches, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain, and fatigue. These typically improve as your body adapts to the medication. To minimize the risk of side effects, consider gradually increasing the dose every 4 weeks.
