These hormones are:
- Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1)
- Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)
By prolonging stomach emptying time, Mounjaro facilitates a prolonged sensation of fullness, aiding in weight loss efforts. Moreover, it influences brain regions responsible for appetite and hunger control, promoting a feeling of satiety even with reduced food intake.
Numerous studies were conducted to evaluate Mounjaro’s efficacy as a weight loss therapy. Subsequent to these investigations, Mounjaro received approval in the UK for weight loss.

- Your starting dose will be 2.5mg once a week for 4 weeks.
- After 4 weeks, your dose will increase to 5mg once a week.
- Your dose can be increased by 2.5mg each month to a max of 15mg
- You can stay on a lower dose if you are happy with your treatment.
- You’ll only need to increase your dose if a lower dose isn’t enough to manage your weight loss.
For weight loss with Mounjaro, it is recommended to administer the injection once a week, consistently on the same day and at the same time. This practice aids in maintaining steady tirzepatide levels in the bloodstream, minimizing the potential for side effects and enhancing overall effectiveness.
Mounjaro is best injected into either the upper thighs or the abdomen. When opting for the abdominal area, ensure a minimum 5cm distance from the belly button. Since Mounjaro is administered only once weekly, the likelihood of experiencing significant soreness or irritation at the injection site is minimal. Nevertheless, to mitigate any potential discomfort, it’s advisable to rotate injection sites weekly, even if it means selecting a different area within the
same region of the skin.
If you’re currently taking Saxenda or Wegovy, it’s necessary to wait for a month before transitioning to Mounjaro. This interval, known as the ‘washout’ period, allows the body time to eliminate the previous medication from the system. Upon initiating Mounjaro, all patients will commence with a 2.5mg dosage.
