Wegovy Pill For Weight Loss

The world’s first once-daily oral GLP-1 weight loss tablet. Wegovy Pill contains semaglutide — the same clinically proven active ingredient as the Wegovy injection — in a convenient, needle-free form. Available in four strengths: 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg.

The Wegovy Pill is the once-daily oral tablet form of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist licensed for weight management alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Approved by the MHRA in June 2026, it is the first daily oral GLP-1 weight loss tablet licensed in the UK, designed for eligible adults who want the proven results of semaglutide without injections.

How Does It Work?

Semaglutide mimics GLP-1, a natural hormone released by the gut after eating. It acts on appetite centres in the brain to reduce hunger, increases feelings of fullness, and slows the rate at which the stomach empties — so you feel satisfied for longer after smaller meals. The tablet uses an absorption enhancer that protects semaglutide from stomach acid and allows it to be absorbed through the stomach lining.

How Effective Is It?

The MHRA approval is based on the OASIS 4 phase 3 clinical trial. After 64 weeks, participants taking the 25 mg tablet lost on average approximately 13.6% of body weight versus approximately 2.4% with placebo. Full adherers lost on average approximately 16.6% versus approximately 2.7% with placebo. Results are broadly comparable to the weekly Wegovy injection.

Ingredients & Composition

The Wegovy Pill contains semaglutide as the active ingredient — a GLP-1 receptor agonist that supports appetite regulation and clinically proven weight loss.

Active Ingredient

Semaglutide — available as 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg tablets.

Absorption Enhancer

The tablet contains an absorption-enhancing agent that protects semaglutide from stomach acid and enables it to be absorbed through the stomach lining. This is why the tablet must be taken on an empty stomach with a small amount of plain water. Full inactive ingredient information will be published when UK prescribing information is confirmed at launch.

Common Side Effects of Wegovy Pill

Side effects with oral semaglutide are expected to be similar to other semaglutide medicines. They are often dose-related and tend to settle as your body adjusts — which is why the dose is increased gradually.

Common Side Effects

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Stomach pain, indigestion, bloating and reflux
  • Reduced appetite
  • Headache
  • Fatigue

Serious Side Effects
(Rare but Important)

  • Pancreatitis — severe and persistent stomach pain, with or without vomiting
  • Gallbladder problems — gallstones, sometimes linked to rapid weight loss
  • Dehydration — dizziness, fainting, very dark urine, or not passing urine
  • Severe allergic reaction — swelling of the face or throat, wheezing, or severe rash
  • Low blood sugar — mainly if used with insulin or a sulfonylurea in people with diabetes

If you experience any severe side effects, seek immediate medical attention. In the OASIS 4 trial, approximately 7% of participants stopped treatment due to side effects — similar to rates seen with the Wegovy injection.

Do Not Use If:

  • You are allergic to semaglutide or any ingredients in the product
  • You are pregnant or think you may be pregnant

The Wegovy Pill is the world’s first once-daily oral GLP-1 weight loss tablet. It contains semaglutide — the same active ingredient as the Wegovy injection — in a tablet form that requires no needles or refrigeration. It was approved by the MHRA in June 2026 and is launching in the UK in July 2026.

Both contain semaglutide and work in the same way. The key differences are that the pill is taken once daily (vs once weekly for the injection), requires no needles, and can be stored at room temperature. The tablet must be taken first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, followed by a 30-minute wait before eating or drinking.

The Wegovy Pill is available in four strengths: 1.5 mg, 4 mg, 9 mg, and 25 mg. Treatment typically begins at a lower dose and is gradually increased to help minimise side effects and allow the body to adjust.

In the OASIS 4 phase 3 clinical trial, participants taking the 25 mg tablet lost on average approximately 13.6% of their body weight over 64 weeks, compared to approximately 2.4% with placebo. Those who adhered fully to the treatment lost approximately 16.6% on average. Individual results vary.

Take one tablet first thing in the morning on a completely empty stomach. Use only a small amount of plain water — not coffee, juice, or other drinks. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking anything other than water, or taking other oral medications. Do not crush or chew the tablet.

The most common side effects are gastrointestinal, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain, and bloating. These are usually dose-related and tend to improve as your body adjusts over the first few weeks. Starting on a lower dose and increasing gradually helps reduce these effects.

The Wegovy Pill is for eligible adults who want a clinically proven, needle-free option for weight management, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is not suitable for people who are pregnant, allergic to semaglutide, or who have certain medical conditions. A clinical consultation is required before prescribing.

No. Unlike the Wegovy injection, the tablet can be stored at room temperature, making it more convenient for travel and everyday use.

Yes. The Wegovy Pill is a prescription-only medicine. You will need to complete a consultation with one of our prescribers before treatment can be issued.
